Foil surface pattern (Hakuomote pattern)

Gold leaf and silver leaf foils, 0.0001mm in thickness, are vulnerable to moisture often causing cracks or blurs. Therefore many replicas are on display in order to protect the original art pieces.
To replicate the hundreds-of-years-old gold/silver leaf, not only requires extreme foil craftsmanship but also an indispensable artistic viewpoint.
Hiroto Reisho, foil craftsman, through his years of experience from his art pieces and the replication of the national treasure painting, “The Gods of Wind and Thunder” successfully reproduced the foil foot patterns that have aged and increased in elegance over centuries, known as the foil surface pattern.

Shishuku

The greatest feature of the Rinpa is the method of gaining painting techniques. Rather than

learning skills and sensibilities directly from a respected painter, secretly model that

person as a role model and learn techniques from them. The Rinpa painters who gathered huge

attention in history also secretly learned the techniques from past attracted painters.
